This wasn't a road trip from Philadelphia to North Jersey,
it was a pilgrimage.
White
Manna's burgers, lovingly called "Sliders" by
those who grew up on them, start off as balls of ground
beef dropped on the grill - smaller balls for single
burgers, larger balls for doubles. The grill master,
who also functions as emcee and social director, flattens
them with a spatula and covers them with fresh onions. One
flipped the bun goes on top of the cooking burgers,
sopping up the juices. They
sure ain't pretty, but I'm not sure there's a better
burger, anywhere.
