I'll
get a chain section going sometime soon. Waffle
House, Krispie Cream, White Castle and the like.
Until
then, as I ate at the Waffle House a few times on my trip
to Texas, I'll include it here.
I've
got to get to the Waffle House at least two times during
any foray into Waffle House Country (the South and MidWest
as far as I can tell). Not all that hard to
do. Seems like there's a Waffle House at almost
every Interstate exit.
My
two favorites - Pork Chop and Eggs with a double order of
home fries and a side of raisin bread. And their
namesake, with pecans mixed in - their Pecan Waffle.
It's
the hash browns where the Waffle House really
shines. The Waffle House hash browns come six
ways: Traditional; Scattered & Smothered
(Onions); Scattered, Smothered & Covered (Onions and
Melted Cheese); Scattered, Smothered, Covered &
Chunked (Onions, Cheese and Ham); Scattered, Smothered,
Covered, Chunked & Topped (Onions, Cheese, Ham &
Chili; Scattered, Smothered, Covered, Chunked, Topped
& Diced (Onions, Cheese, Ham, Chili and Diced
Tomatoes).
One
tradition, as you walk in the door, all the servers greet
you with a "Welcome," "Howdy" or
"Good Morning" and really seem to mean it.
Another tradition - The Waffle House songs on the juke
box. Click on the pic of the juke box on the right
to go to a web site that sells the Waffle House CD and
where you can hear sound bites from a number of the songs.
