Shank's and Evelyn's is about as South Philly as it gets.  It starts with Evelyn (that's her on the right) and the other women who work behind the counter.  All from the neighborhood.  All friendly but with that South Philly edge.  You just know if you start acting up you'll be dragged out of the place by your ear.

Good eating here.  Omelets and pancakes for breakfast.  Had my omelet with homemade Italian sausage and spinach.  Great all vegetable omelet too.  If there are two of you, or if you've got a Holly sized appetite, there's the Giambotti - most everything lying around the kitchen made into a huge, sorta omelet.

All sorts of sandwiches for lunch.  Steak, Chicken Parmesan, fish cake, roast beef, etc.  But I always end up ordering a large pork sandwich with provolone and grilled spinach.  And, Yo!, a few hot peppers on the side.
