Sarcone's
Bakery in South Philadelphia's Italian Market is
considered by many/most to bake the best bread in the
city, perhaps the continent. Some of it goes to
their deli, just down the block at 9th and Fitzwater.
Gotta have great bread to make a great hoagie.
Went for their "Old Fashioned Italian Hoagie"
described as "Thinly Sliced Prosciutto, Hot
Sopressata, Hot Coppa, Sharp Provolone and Dry Herbs with
oil and vinegar." I answered yes to
"peppers?," "oil and vinegar?"
and every thing else the nice counter lady asked.
The result - a wonderful blend of flavors. A truly
great hoagie.
Headed
back the next day for the Sinatra hoagie.
Prosciutto, sauteed spinach, fresh mozzarella, roasted
garlic, red wine vinegar and olive. Just as good,
and totally different in taste.
