John's
Roast Pork has been around for some 72 years. I've
been driving by it and not stopping for 25 years.
It's always intrigued me but I've never been in area when
they're open. Then
Craig Laban, Restaurant Reviewer for the Philadelphia
Inquirer took some kids on a cheesesteak eating
adventure. They picked John's as serving the
best. I had to push through the Laban groupies and a
line out the door to find out for myself. That's
John's cheesesteak on the left. It is good.
Strange in that it has a lot more cheese than the typical
cheesesteak. No Wiz available, so I went for
provolone. It's a huge sandwich. Lot's of
steak, grilled to order. Lots of cheese. And
great bread from Carangi bakery at Iseminger and Oregon. It
is a great cheesesteak and, along with Dalessandro's it's
my number
two pick, right behind Steve's Prince of Steaks, my
current favorite. But
John's is kinda like Tony Luke's. Lots of good stuff
on the menu, including the cheesesteak, but their pork
sandwich (upper right) is so good, I'm going to have a
hard time ordering anything other than John's pork
sandwich.
