Founded
in 1913, Crown Candy is the oldest soda fountain in St.
Louis and one of the oldest in the United States.
They are famous for two sweets - ice cream, especially
their shakes, and chocolate Easter Bunnies, which they
ship all over the country. The
shakes are 24 ounces and there's a standard offer - drink
5 in a half hour and they are free. Out of my
league. But I always go for their specialty, a
chocolate malted with a fresh banana tossed in. Along
side I had a chili dog. It's served with a knife,
fork, soup spoon and oyster crackers. The pic above
shows why, the split grilled dog on a bun is aswim in a
zippy chili. Have
always found great road food in St. Louis, but it's Crown
Candy that keeps me coming back to the city whenever I'm
in the area.
