Over 80 years ago, Lawrence “Chubby” Woodman invented the fried clam.  As far as I'm concerned Woodman's still serves some of the best fried clams on the New England Coast.  Plump, juicy fried Ipswich clams complete with belly.

Woodman's does it all.  Out front - steamed lobster.  Inside, along with fried clams - clam cakes, fried shrimp and fish, clam chowder and great onion rings.  Everything is served "in the rough" in baskets that you tote back to a picnic table - indoors or outdoors.

More than once I've made the 16 hour round trip from Philadelphia to Essex just for a pint of Woodman's fried clams.
