You go to the North Carolina State Fair and you'll be eating good. A bunch of Carolina BBQ, of course, and all manner of other southern eatables - smoked turkey legs, fresh roasted peanuts, fried catfish, country ham and biscuits.

Best fare comes from the church dining halls set up in a row along the main walkway. Outside, bands play, hawkers hawk all trying to entice you inside.

I ended up at the Sunrise Methodist Church for a plate of barbecue, some fresh cut french fries and good conversation with my table mates.

For dessert, what else but a deep fat fried candy bar - a milky way on a stick, batter dipped and fried to a golden brown.
