The Seewee is located on Route 17 North, a good drive from Charleston. Keep going. Even when you think you've driven to far. Eventually, on the left, after miles of darkness you'll come upon an oasis of light. The sign out front reads Seewee Restaurant. You've arrived.
Seewee would like folks to try their upscale fish dishes - herb crusted salmon or blackened tuna. And I'm sure they are delicious. But Seewee is famous for its basic fried seafood and that is what I ordered. The combination platter. Delicately coated and fried scallops, shrimp, oysters and white fish. Along side a choice of two sides. For me, greens, and fried green tomatoes. Started with a bowl of she-crab soup of which Seewee is justly proud.
It was a chilly January night and the place was packed. No room to wait inside, so Seewee built a fire in their outdoor grill and everyone huddled around. In warmer weather, the area becomes an outdoor dining room.
