Gullah is actually a language, West African Pidgen English with Creole influence. Gullah culture has sustained over the years, especially in the area north of Charleston. Much of what is considered low country cooking is based on the Creole traditions of the Gullah culture. Gullah cooking is also very similar to Creole cooking.
All of which is good reasons to head to Gullah Cuisine restaurant. Their She-Crab Soup, Gullah Rice (dirty rice with shrimp, andouile sausage and chicken), and Okra Gumbo are all great. But best dish of all was one of the sides, shown to the right. Lima beans - white lima beans, thick stock full of flavor.
