There
is the occasional meal where I wish I had chosen
something other than grease stains to demonstrate my
pleasure. For Olivia consider the grease stains to
represent drops of fine virgin olive oil rather than the
oozings of a cheese steak hoagie.
Wow. Not what
one expects to find on a small island in Mexico -
sophisticated Mediterranean cooking as good as I have
tasted anywhere.
Started with Labane
- a cross between yogurt and cream cheese.
Convinced them to serve it with green greek olives -
yielding one of my favorite flavor combinations.
Moved on to Chicken
and Olives - two thigh and drumstick quarters braised in
red wine, tomatoes and green olives. Seved with
couscous.
For dessert, an
intriguing baklava - traditional but with a flavor I
didn't recognize, perhaps citrus.
One of my best
meals on Isla.
