Everyone's
going to Gino's for a cheesesteak and you're in the mood
for Mexican. No longer an issue. La Lupe, a
half block from Gino's dishes up some home style Mexican
Cooking that is muy bueno. Thanks
to their huevos rancheros (above), La Lupe is becoming a
regular breakfast destination. I order them con
chorizo which always seems to upset the staff. But
they humor the gringo loco. One
of my favorite tacos is Al Pastor (right) made of spiced
up pork and served with a wedge of lime. Last time
there I went for the enchiladas mole (upper right).
Mole sauce is based on bittersweet chocolate and a classic
Mexican sauce. One
enticement or warning - everything here comes with a spicy
kick of hot - not Taco Belled down to meek American
expectations. Both the mole sauce and the salsa
verde served with the chips had a suprising kick to them.
In
the fridge, both domestic and imported (Mexican) Coca
Cola. The Mexican version supposedly has more sugar
and is sweeter. And it comes in a classic glass
bottle.
