Their
Welsh Rarebit wasn't what I expected. More like a
melted cheese sandwich. But I'm not going to
challenge Fortnum and Mason as to the makings of a proper
Welsh Rarebit. Their version comes on cheddar bread,
topped with back bacon, a grilled tomato on the side. The
Fountain is one of F&M's three restaurants, the most
like a tea room. In fact they are noted for their
afternoon teas. Also their ice cream sundaes.
I went for their Patio Nut sundae, super smooth and rich,
intensely flavored coffee ice cream with caramel sauce and
toasted almonds. To
drink, organic ginger beer from the Belvoir Fruit
Farms. Worth a return to London just for another
bottle.
