Anyone who says Detroit is a bleary choice for a
vacation has not been to
the public Saturday Market at Eastern Market. The
place is vibrant, packed and one of the great American
markets.
Eastern Market is
Detroit's food distribution area - mostly wholesale
during the week, but wide-open on Saturdays.
Most of the
Saturday Market happens in giant shed's packed with
independent vendors - some 250 vendors in merchants in
five sheds and storefronts lining Russell and Riopelle
Street.
If it's fresh,
there is a stand selling it. Every fruit and
vegetable in season, fresh flowers, meats, seasonings
and plenty to eat as one walk's.
Come early and
there is plenty of street parking, Later there are
lots and a garage off Riopelle Street.
