As soon as you walk
in the door you realize something is missing. The
smoke and smell of the barbecue pit. Not to worry.
Their pits are going strong - in its own room, closed
off from the restaurant. People line up in front
of the door. On the door a yellowed sign, "Please
don't hold the door open." Inside the pit room, a
thin haze concentrated barbecue smoke and some of the
best barbecue in the state.
The City Market's
menu is as simple as it gets. Sausage, brisket and
ribs. I had one of each. They make their own
sausage. Real good. Ribs had a nice smoke to
them and a bit of a char. Brisket was good - their
sauce made it better.
