Old school South
Philadelphia neighborhood lunch counter. Solid
basic food, well prepared. Been around for some 50
years, current owners for the last 25 years.
I happened upon
Brunic's on a Sunday morning while searching for a
breakfast sandwich. I ordered scrapple and eggs
and immediately fell in love with Brunic's when I saw
the slab of scrapple hit the grill - super thick, two to
three times as thick as I am used to. Choice of
kaiser roll, long roll or toast.
Then I looked at
the menu. One of the specials, a hot dog club
sandwich. A hot dog club sandwich! I headed back for
lunch the next day. A hot dog club sandwich it was
- two DIetz and Watson dogs with mustard on the bottom
layer and bacon, lettuce tomato and more mustard on the
top layer. Odd, but tasty. Brunic's has also
recently introduced breakfast clubs. I'm curious about
those.
I am always just a
bit intimidated every time I walk into a South Philly
place that has been around forever, feeling like I'm
intruding. Dumb. There has always been a warm welcome
and Brunic's is no exception. Felt at home as soon
as I wallked through the door. After three visits I feel
like a long-time regular.
